Millet – The Hero Grain

So recently grain has been getting a bad rap. According to Ayurveda, grain is an important part of our diet so I am not in a hurry to toss it.

Here is a simple and super-nutritious breakfast!

For 1 serving:

  • 1/2 a cup of puffed millet cereal
  • 1 teaspoon of black sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of coconut shavings
  • Raw honey to taste
  • Milk of your choice

Millet contains many nutrients and is easy to digest as well as being a non-allergenic grain. It contains serotonin to help as a mood-stabilizer, magnesium, Niacin to help lower cholesterol and millet also aids digestion.

Millet contains a considerable amount of fiber and has a relatively low glycemic index which contributes to keeping blood sugar levels than wheat or rice. (Kamari and Sumathi, 2002)

Millet is 15 % protein!
