In Ayurveda, health is defined as the dynamic state of balance between mind, body, and environment. It is possible for each of us to achieve and maintain a vibrant and joyful state of health by identifying our mind-body type dosha (Vata/Pitta/Kapha) and then creating a lifestyle that sustains and nurtures our unique nature.
Understanding your dosha takes a few steps, see the dosha quiz here
Dosha – In Ayurvedic medicine, each of these three energies is understood to circulate in the body and govern certain physiological activity. Their differing proportions determining individual temperament and physical constitution and (when unbalanced) causing a disposition to particular physical and mental disorders
Thereafter prioritizing the guidelines of your dosha will take more time, however, hopefully, you will never follow another fad diet again. You will not succumb to 30-days-to-this-and-that “health”-propaganda. This is a lifetime effort using the dosha guidelines as your framework for overall good health. Again, it is going to take time but this is your personalized scientific approach to your mind-body, for life.
As an experiment when I my dosha guidelines I clearly feel a positive difference in health overall. When I do not follow my guidelines, it is clearly visible to me, apart from not feeling my best. Yes, there are a couple changes but hey, be practical about it. Ease into it and be patient with yourself.

The 3 Dosha types:
It is important to note that everyone has all three doshas in different proportions. This varied dosha proportion governs one’s physiological and personality attributes and can influence preferences such as environment for example.
Vata Dosha — The Energy that influences bodily functions related to motion such as blood circulation, the heart, and breathing.
- When the Vata energy is in balance you are creative and vivacious.
- When out of balance you feel anxious and exhausted.
Pitta Dosha — Energy that influences the body’s metabolic systems, such as absorption, nutrition, digestion and bodily temperature.
- When the Pitta energy is in balance you enjoy feelings of satisfaction and are mentally sharp.
- When out of balance you feel anger quite easily and are susceptible to ulcers.
Kapha Dosha — Energy that influences growth in the body. It provides water to the body, moisture to the skin and positively influences the immune system.
- When you are in balance you are the picture of love.
- When you are out of balance you feel insecure and jealous quite easily.
